Home, Health and Saving

Changing your life takes a vision.
It’s been said a visionary does nothing more than see an end result and work the problem backwards to the HERE, the starting point, to reveal the steps necessary to achieve a goal.

On New Year’s, a group of us refined our vision, defined our goals for both release and future abundance – and sent those visions out into the universe for manifestation. To keep them moving, however, we must also do the associated work in our daily lives.

My whole family adopted the same main goal this year.  Then I embellished: an extra wish regarding Ian, who will start college this fall; a couple of ‘release’ wishes regarding my health.  Hence, the “Health, Home and Saving” title.

Jan. 2 & 3 I spent completing the planning necessary to take our end result visions backwards to the NOW.  For example, my wish for Ian requires saving $1,000 by the time he starts college in August.  Worked to the NOW, that means saving $4 a day.  Part of my health ‘release’ wish requires modifying my eating habits to lose weight and lower blood glucose levels. The home wish will result in better organization and less stress.

Since we’re in Mercury Retrograde until Jan 15, the activities for the first two weeks reflect that: Restoring, reviewing, replacing, etc.

One small step forward in each category each day. Journey with me, and share progress on your vision.  We will encourage each other in this New Year!

Monday/Tuesday, Jan. 4/5:

Health: Re-hydrate. Drink 64 oz of water every day (4 pint bottles, one every 2-3-hours). Stop 2 hrs before bed, for obvious reasons.

Home: New calendars up, old into recycle bin (copy important dates, b’days, etc. from old to new before tossing). Note to self: Need to start both spring & fall gardens two weeks earlier this year. Put dates on new calendar now, they creep up on me so fast! We will prep the garden bed over the long MLK weekend, right after Mercury retrograde ends.

Saving: Make vegetable and meat stock.  Aim for $5 a night max. cost for family’s dinner.                                                                                            Used  Saturday’s steak bones and the leftover turkey (froze the holiday ham bone for bean soup next week).  Fun, fun, fun! Went through fridge and pulled out the veggies not quite fresh enough to use alone (broccoli that’s faded, carrots a little floppy, onion just sprouting). I usually toss those vegs into the compost pile, now they will live again!  Added broccoli, carrots, green and red onion, too-little red peppers from garden, leftover green beans, celery, cauliflower.   Throw in a sachet of dried herbs – oregano, to protect our pets; basil for happiness; celery seed for love; rosemary for good luck; bay for home protection; thyme for strong  family bonds; garlic, to remove negative influences; caraway for material gain; and dill for peace and tranquility. A little sea salt because it tastes good. Bring the stock to a slow, rolling boil and reduce to simmer. Simmer for at least 12 hours, up to 72 hours. The smell is driving me crazy!

But I’m getting distracted – back to saving.  No purchases at all for the stock ingredient, so saving approx. $3 in canned broth.  Also coupon shopped at grocery today, and had a $5 off for Safeway, so saved $8.65 there. Paul & I had free invites to the Fiesta Bowl dinner dance at the Phoenician last night (lots of fun, Michael MacDonald performed, remember him from the Doobie Brothers??).  I have $5 a night budgeted for family dinners, so there’s $5 saved.   Throw in the $40 I made at the Tarot party at Leah’s mom’s house. Total savings/earnings = $56.65. Woo hoo!
